Cathy O’Donnell Student Experience Officer

Cathy O’Donnell

I am the Student Experience Officer (SEO) at SODA and my role is to help students make the most of their time whilst at Manchester Met, supporting student experience from the day students enrol to graduation. SEOs support and enhance the student experience and provide excellence in student experience support.

The three main strands of my work are: Student voice, Student Experience and Retention and Progression. This could involve organising guest lectures and events throughout the year; attending SSLCs to promote student voice and gather feedback from course reps; recognising and rewarding students’ achievements; supporting student societies; supporting with alumni initiatives and graduate outcomes and working with a wide range of other services including Careers, Study Skills, Library and MMU Sport.

I joined Manchester Met in August 2021 after a number of years working in schools as a Careers Adviser. I also worked in the Connexions service, providing support for unemployed young people and was also seconded to a local Youth Offending Team. I have worked in both primary, secondary and post 16 and am now very excited to be working in higher education, particularly in Manchester, my home city.

I studied Psychology at University in Hull and lived and worked there after graduation. Outside of work, I am season ticket holder at Man United, love music, walking and spending quality time with family and friends.
