As part of the wider Sandbox exhibition by Jazmin Morris, we are delighted to be hosting a drop-in session with British-Ghanaian artist, Ama Dogbe. Ama is a British-Ghanaian artist whose work engages with a range of personal and societal themes through digital mediums including video games, digital animations and audio-visual installations.
Her processes use self-taught and collaborative techniques to arrive at experimental and unconventional outcomes. She and Jazmin Morris will come together virtually in Gather to discuss themes of creating digital environments that centre marginalised identities and disrupt the mainstream aesthetic, immersive & Interactive worldbuilding and representation in the gaming industry.

As part of Jazmin Morris’ exhibition and residency at Modal gallery – Sandbox will manifest online via Gather, an interactive 8-bit style virtual platform. In Gather, audiences will join a virtual ‘in conversation’ with Jazmin Morris and Ama Dogbe whilst also being able to explore some elements of the physical show, online. Sandbox on Gather will be open with an invigilator Mon – Fri 12pm-5pm – reflecting the opening times of the physical space inside Modal gallery.
What is Gather?
Gather is an 8-bit style ‘proximity’ video-calling platform accessible through a web browser at https://gather.town/. It allows participants to move through digital spaces freely, walk in and out of conversations easily, and interact with content in the space. As part of Sandbox, artist Jazmin Morris has recreated Sandbox inside this virtual platform for online visitors to to explore key artefacts, literature, provocations, worlds and interactive games from the exhibition.
