Students from the School of Digital Arts (SODA) recently had the chance to showcase their work to international industry creatives at the Montag Residency in Istanbul, Turkey.
Showcasing 40 SODA staff and student creatives, the event ‘Work Unity: Open Networks’ took place at 5533 art space, located in a grass roots cultural area amongst artist studios and arts venues in the İMÇ shopping centre. The showcase was aimed at recognising SODA’s emphasis on digital collaboration.

It followed a talk about photography, arts and industry collaboration and socially engaged practice at the SAHA Association, where Senior Lecturer in Photography, Dr Helen McGhie, presented her research alongside artist and cultural producer Eda Emirdağ and Open Eye Gallery’s Head of Social Practice / University of Salford lecturer, Elizabeth Wewiora.
Turkish arts project Montag Residency (led by Eda Emirdağ) co-organised the SODA showcase as part of their work bringing international creatives to Istanbul. The event was part of their programme ‘Work-Unity,’ encouraging creative communities to work within supportive frameworks.
