The School of Digital Arts (SODA) at Manchester Metropolitan University is pleased to announce its recent sponsorship of Limit Break Mentorship UK, a non-profit initiative dedicated to supporting people from underrepresented backgrounds in the UK games industry.

Limit Break Mentorship

Limit Break Mentorship UK pairs participants with experienced industry professionals through a structured six-month mentorship programme. The initiative helps mentees develop practical skills, gain industry insight, and build professional networks, with the wider aim of improving diversity and inclusion across the games sector.

Supporting widening participation in games

This sponsorship reflects SODA’s ongoing commitment to widening participation and creating equitable opportunities within the creative industries. By supporting Limit Break, the school is contributing to an initiative that actively works to remove barriers for emerging talent and strengthen pathways into the games industry.

The funding for this sponsorship was shared across the University’s games provision, including BA Games Art, BSc Games Design and BSc Computer Games Development. Importantly, the initiative was a collaborative effort between SODA and the Department of Computing and Mathematics, where the BSc Computer Games Development programme is based, ensuring the sponsorship represents a cross-departmental commitment rather than a single course initiative.

This partnership highlights a shared ambition across programmes to support underrepresented talent and strengthen the future of the games industry through mentorship, access and professional development opportunities.

“We are proud to support such an important initiative at Manchester Metropolitan University. Championing diverse communities is at the heart of who we are, and we are deeply committed to promoting equality and celebrating diversity in everything we do.” — Owen Calderbank, Programme Lead for BA Games Art
