Evan Wilson Technical Manager (Digital Arts)

Evan Wilson

I am Technical Manager (Digital Arts) in the Technical Services team at Manchester Metropolitan University, where I oversee a dynamic team spanning the Arts and Humanities faculty. I started at the University five years ago as a Technician in the AV Store before joining the Digital Arts and Media team as a Technical Officer. I then took up the role of Technical Specialist in order to play a crucial role in establishing the technical groundwork for the new School of Digital Arts (SODA) building.

I lead a team of technicians to support a broad range of disciplines across Filmmaking, Photography, Games Art, Future Media Production and Animation. My responsibilities span the Arts and Humanities faculty, where I ensure the seamless operation and advancement of technical infrastructure to support diverse educational needs.

My background is in music, videography, filmmaking, photography and 3D Modelling; and my professional interests include experiential learning models, pedagogical research, future, digital technologies, hybrid events, live-streaming, music, filmmaking, 3D modelling and photography.

I am also recognised for my innovative contributions to experiential learning through my project, Art School Live. As the visionary behind this initiative, I train students to plan and produce live-streamed hybrid music events, offering valuable real-world experience to students on public-facing productions. This successful model has been adapted for the equally thriving Matchday Live projects, which apply the same principles to sports live-streaming.

A graduate in Popular Music and Recording from Salford University, I bring a comprehensive perspective to the role, combining technical proficiency with a passion for the arts. Beyond my professional commitments, my history in the Manchester music scene underscores my understanding of both the creative and technical dimensions of the industry. My leadership will continue to foster innovation and experiential learning across the university.
