Dr Marianne Patera Programme Leader, Animation; Senior Lecturer, Animation

Dr Marianne Patera

I am Programme Leader for Animation and a Senior Lecturer in Animation at SODA.

I have worked in higher education since 2006 and have been teaching across all levels as well as supervising PG dissertations and PhD theses. My expertise and research interests lie within the areas of 3D animation, 3D printing, visual storytelling, VR applications and colour research. I have a practice-based MPhil in Advanced 2D/3D motion graphics, and a PhD in Art & Design from the Glasgow School of Art. My PhD focused on designing and implementing innovative learning and teaching techniques using 3D visualization and VR technologies.

I have been involved in numerous interdisciplinary research projects and collaborated with professionals from a range of subject areas (Computer Science, Psychology, Engineering, Education, Fashion, Medicine, etc.). Most of these collaborations have resulted in peer-reviewed publications, exhibitions, shows and funding applications.

As a practitioner I have produced animations for commercial clients (architectural, automotive and medical visualisations, VR game environments, interactive simulations, etc.). I also run my own 3D Design and 3D Printing business.
