My creative practice exists in the space between documentary image making and artist film, and often explores the intersections between people, place and the socio-political. I’m interested in abstract narratives which consider identity as linked to local environment, social history, topography and ecology.  My work, which combines poetic sensibilities with collaborative processes, has a particular focus on the marginalisation and cultural identity of post-industrial and rural communities. I work in both analogue and digital mediums and make work for cinema and gallery settings.

My research seeks to contribute to the understanding of new collaborative methodologies in documentary practice, with an aim of challenging the inherent imbalance of power which exists within the practitioner/participant relationship. I’ve previously collaborated with family members, school groups, artists, asylum seekers and people in recovery from substance misuse to create original work exploring themes mentioned previously. Currently, I’m exploring the creative possibilities of collaborating with the more-than-human using ecological photochemistry. I am also completing my PhD by practice at MMU.
