Dr David Penny Programme Leader, Photography; Senior Lecturer, Photography

Dr David Penny

I have extensive experience as an academic in Photography, delivering UG and PG courses and am Programme Leader for BA / MA Photography at SODA. I’ve supervised and examinied practice-based PhD research projects, both internally and externally.

I am interested in an exploration of the edges of photography, critically approaching a use of the medium, through which the ideas of the photographic are considered productive, making something new and materially present.

My research practice uses traditional still and moving image-making, and sculptural processes as well as working with digital render, animation and 3D print.

Methods and processes are often informed through personal experience and a close observation of a workplace or space of production, re-framing materials, objects and histories that have become overlooked or are remnants of technologies of making.
