Roger McKinley

Research Associate

Roger McKinley has 25 years of experience in research and production in the cultural sector. In his previous role as Head of Innovation at FACT, Liverpool, he set up and ran the Research and Innovation Department to deliver strategic development through new value chains between arts organisations, Creative and Digital Industries (CDI) businesses, FE and HE institutions regionally, nationally and internationally.  He was Project Manager for the LCR Activate programme, a 2 year European Regional Development Funding support programme for CDIs in the Liverpool City Region.


Roger developed and ran FACTLab, an incubator space for innovative ideas and learning, has developed and managed a cohort of practice-based PhDs into the artistic programme at FACT as well as established an ongoing high level research innovation programme with higher education institutions across the UK, and internationally.

Roger was the co-founder of the independent arts and cultural publication Corridor8, led on the first national multi-channel video player for the arts – – and was partner lead for the creative industry focused Creative Exchange programme as part of the national AHRC Knowledge Exchange Hubs. He led on the 2017 Film Talent Development Programme, enabling emerging film makers to access key thinkers and makers in associated sectors and is a published and award winning author. At Manchester Metropolitan University he is Research Associate in the Audience with a Hero project, funding by Innovate UK, focusing on Market Intelligence and leading on Funfair!, a prototype experience for improving motor and cognitive skills in a CAVE setting for people living with Parkinson’s Disease.
